St. Anthony’s Italian Family Feast Returns To Roselle Park In June

ROSELLE PARK- Church of the Assumption will present its annual St. Anthony Italian Family Feast again this summer, offering homemade cooking, an Italian style café, food vendors, non-stop entertainment and music, amusements, and games. The events, located on the Church grounds at 113 Chiego Place, Roselle Park, will begin on Thursday, June 6 and run through Sunday, June 9. The festival will be open Thursday from 6-10 p.m., Friday from 6-11 p.m., Saturday from 4-11 p.m. and Sunday from 2-10 p.m.

A variety of local dance and karate studios are scheduled to put on performances, The Jersey Shades band will be playing, there will be two singers: Jimmy Alleva – Italian American Tenor, and Eric Delauro – Sinatra Rat Pack Tribute; plus a poetry reading program by Roselle Park Poet Laureate, Leona Seufert. Two radio stations, NJ 101.5 Big Yellow Prize Van and Magic 98.3 FM will also make an appearance. There will also be rides for children.

The feast is also a faith oriented celebration. Bishop Manuel A. Cruz, Episcopal Vicar for Union County and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark will be the main Celebrant of the Mass on June 9 at noon. Afterwards he will re-consecrate the parish's original bell, which is now prominently displayed on the church's side lawn. Then there will follow a traditional procession through the streets with the statue of St. Anthony accompanied with music by the Rick Macri's La Banda delle Feste Italiane band, who will also play as people arrive for the Mass. Once again, the beautiful 100 year old statue of St. Anthony, that was part of the parish when founded in 1907, will be the center piece of the procession.
