Virginia Beach Italian organization still recovering from Hurricane Matthew

In the Roma Lodge’s renovated ballroom, there are still small signs of Hurricane Matthew. Some ceiling tiles are water-damaged, and the chair rail conceals the seam in the wall where lodge members tore out soaked drywall and replaced it. Members of Virginia Beach’s Roma Lodge have raised more than $25,000 and spent countless hours cleaning up their building since floodwater from Hurricane Matthew damaged it in October.

The lodge opened in the late 1970s, and has never flooded, said Pat Davis, president of the Order Sons of Italy in America for the Tidewater chapter. Like many people in the city affected by Hurricane Matthew, the organization didn’t have flood insurance.
