The Grand Lodge of Ohio, Sons of Italy in America recently awarded Akron Police Capt. Paul Calvaruso the State of Ohio 2013 Law Officer of the Year award. The award was presented at the evening gala event at the Cherry Valley Lodge during The Sons of Italy biennial state convention. Calvaruso is shown at right accepting the award, with Terry Latavo, president of Sons of Italy, looking on.

Calvaruso is a 28-year veteran of the Akron Police Department. He is currently a captain in the Uniform Sub-Division. He advanced through the ranks to his current position, where he oversees five patrol shifts and approximately 200 officers and supervisors, according to the Sons of Italy.
