Consul of Italy in Detroit Paola Allegra Baistrocchi recently participated in the podcast “The Michigan Opportunity” presented by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Host Ed Clemente, himself Italian-American of Abruzzese heritage, posed questions about the history of the Consulate in Detroit (did you know there has been a Consular Antenna here since 1899?), the responsibilities of a Consul (many), and Consul Baistrocchi’s interesting background (you’ll have to listen to it to find out).
One of the functions of the Consul is to promote all things Italian, the language, the culture, and Italian products, which Consul Baistrocchi is very passionate about. While many Italian products are well-known (fashion, food, design, automotive, because after all we are in Detroit), many people may not be aware other parallelisms … do you equate Italy with Space? Consul Baistrocchi will tell you, as she is focused on raising awareness of Italian products and increasing trade and investment opportunities for Italian companies.
