The Consulate of Italy in Detroit is proud to announce that James Vincent Bellanca III, a prominent attorney and esteemed member of the Italian-American community, has been awarded the title of Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
This prestigious honor recognizes Bellanca's exceptional contributions to both his profession and the Italian-American community. The Ordine della Stella d'Italia is one of Italy's highest honors, conferred upon individuals who have distinguished themselves through their professional, social, or cultural contributions that have strengthened ties between Italy and the world.
Bellanca's career, deeply rooted in both his Italian heritage and commitment to public service, embodies the values of this distinguished award.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, James Vincent Bellanca III has been an unwavering advocate for the Italian community for over two decades. As a skilled attorney specializing in corporate and real estate law, Bellanca has not only excelled professionally but has also dedicated countless hours of pro bono legal assistance to Italian citizens and Italian-American organizations. He has been a trusted advisor to the Consulate of Italy in Detroit for several years, providing essential legal services in matters ranging from estate administration to immigration issues, completely free of charge. Bellanca is the fifth member of his family to serve as a Lawyer of Reference for the Consulate, continuing a legacy of service that spans more than 80 years.
In addition to his legal practice and his participation as a member of the Italian American Bar Association, which placed him in the list of the top 1% of jurists in the State of Michigan, Bellanca has been actively involved in supporting Italian culture and community initiatives. He has served on the Board of Directors for the N.O.I. Foundation, the educational non-profit of the Consulate, and the Italian American Cultural Society (IACS), where he has worked to promote Italian language, culture, and heritage. His contributions to these organizations, particularly in raising funds for charitable causes and fostering cross-cultural dialogue, have made a significant impact on the local community and reinforced the strong cultural bond between Italy and the United States. Bellanca’s dedication to advancing the welfare of others, combined with his professional achievements, moral integrity, and unwavering commitment to his Italian roots, have made him an exemplary figure in both the legal and Italian-American communities.
It is for these extraordinary contributions that Consul of Italy in Detroit Allegra Baistrocchi is honored to have officiated the ceremony by which James Vincent Bellanca III, Jimmy to many, has been appointed as a Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia. This recognition is a testament to his lifelong dedication to the principles of service, integrity, and the promotion of Italian culture.
The Consulate congratulates Mr. Bellanca on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to his continued contributions to both the Italian-American community and the broader community in Michigan.
