The ornate marble work they produced distinguished Milwaukee's first Italian immigrants from other ethnic groups in the city. So did their unification under Festa Italiana in 1978 — the city's first ethnic festival on the Summerfest grounds. This citywide Italian family reunion at the lakefront keeps getting bigger and better.
In addition to authentic products and food demonstrations, Festa will offer 40 food vendors selling Italian-American favorite such as pizza, Italian sausage, arancini (rice balls), toasted ravioli, sfingi (Italian doughnuts), Italian cookies and fresh gelato among other mouth-watering dining options. Cannoli fanatics should ready their stomachs because there will be a cannoli-eating contest at 3 p.m. Saturday. Anthony Paulis was the champion of last year's Festa. Who will this year's winner be?
