Education, music, family, food and laughter. These are the things that have shaped the world of Louis Covelli, who directed the Tremper High School bands for more than three decades before retiring in June.
And on Sunday night, Covelli was the honored for his contributions to the community during the Italian American Society's annual Columbus Day Banquet at the Italian American Club.
The dinner featured the music by the Tremper Golden Strings and presentations by master of ceremonies state Rep. Peter Barca, D-Kenosha and Steven Torcaso, the society's president.
Covelli thanked his colleagues, his wife Sue, his daughters Alyssa and Michaela and others for inspiring him to be the best he could be as a father, an educator and friend to the community.
