The Cleveland Cultural Gardens are often the site of performances of various types, most of which tend to be small and intimate. Not so Opera in the Italian Garden, an annual event that draws thousands of people to this spectacular two-level garden. Concertgoers come early to stake a spot on the grounds and spread out their lavish picnics, or purchase food and drink from vendors onsite.
The music is presented by The Cleveland Opera, whose singers and special guests offer a program of familiar, beloved arias and popular Italian songs. You can pretty much predict what you’ll hear. “Nessun dorma”? You bet! “Largo al factotum” (Figaro’s aria, from The Barber of Seville)? Definitely! “Mamma”? There’d be a riot if they skipped it.
