The Feast of Maria SS Lauretana has travelled a long and winding road from the narrow streets of a small Sicilian town to the open arms of a north suburban shopping center. The journey has been centuries in the making, and the path has been strewn with challenges but paved with faith.
"Our feast has been celebrated for hundreds of years in Sicily and more than a century in America," says Joseph Camarda, president of the Congregazione Maria Santissima Lauretana di Alta Villa Milicia in Chicago. "This is our fifth location in the Chicago area in our 115-year history, but we've never missed a celebration. It's a testament to our devotion in the Blessed Mother and the power of prayer."
