Festa Italiana on Taylor Street is being replaced this year by Little Italy Festa (Aug. 16-19), presented by Onesti Entertainment. Star Events, which puts on festivals around the city, took over Festa Italiana in 2014 from Onesti Entertainment, which is run by events producer and Little Italy native Ron Onesti. Onesti created the original festival in 2006; he said he renamed this year’s event to celebrate the neighborhood’s Italian immigrant history and culture.
The decision to change vendors was made by the Little Italy Chicago Neighborhood Association (LICNA), an organization formed in 2017 to promote the community and address residential and business issues. One of LICNA’s first actions was requesting proposals for someone to run the Taylor Street festival. Onesti ended up being closest to what Festa wanted to do with the event, committee chair Tia Giacalone wrote in an email.
