Following its sold-out Los Angeles and Off Broadway runs, “I’m Not a Comedian…I’m Lenny Bruce” will premiere in Chicago at the Royal George Cabaret Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted, Chicago, in late October. Directed by award-winning actor and director Joe Mantegna and produced in partnership with Lenny Bruce’s daughter Kitty, the play was written by and stars Ronnie Marmo and chronicles the life and death of the most controversial comedian of all time.
His groundbreaking brand of comedy led to numerous obscenity charges and arrests, including for a performance at The Gate of Horn in December 1962 in Chicago. He fought for free speech all the way to the Supreme Court, dying of an accidental overdose while his case was out on appeal.
