A celebration of Italian culture and Christopher Columbus' landing in the New World was held Sunday afternoon. October is Italian Heritage Month. The celebration was held at Mishawaka's Central Park, where a statue of Columbus has stood for more than 30 years. The event celebrated Italian culture with guest speakers and an Italian buffet. We spoke with a Keynote speaker, Christopher Spataro.
"There are so many great things that came from Columbus venturing across the Atlantic To find this country. We don't discount that there might have been some negatives and you can take either viewpoint, But today is about the celebration of all those positives that came about in this country and for our Italian American ancestors," says Spataro.
