Born in Genoa in 1976, Gianluca Campi began studying accordion at the age of 11, under the direction of Giorgio Bicchieri. At 12 years of age, he participated and won the Vercelli international competition for accordion and later participated in the Italian championship, held in Genoa, where he ranked again in 1st place, gaining huge success. At the age of 13 he took part in the international competition of Vercelli, ranking 1st and receiving compliments from Wolmer Beltrami, who called him a "child prodige" and the "Paganini of the accordion".
