If you've navigated the New York subway system, consulted a Fodor's travel guide, shopped at Bloomingdales, Benetton or J.C. Penney, driven a Ford or flown American Airlines, you've been touched by the design of Massimo Vignelli.
The great Italian-born graphic designer, who died in May at age 83, immigrated to the United States in the mid 1960s, where he founded, with his wife and partner, Lella, one of the most influential design practices of the 20th century.
