Superior to begin celebrating “Indigenous People’s Day” instead of “Columbus Day”

The Superior City Council has decided the city will now officially celebrate “Indigenous People’s Day”, instead of “Columbus Day”. That decision was made with a unanimous vote Tuesday night.

Duluth has already made the switch, and the Superior leaders felt it was time they made a change as well. Mayor Jim Paine says Native American tribes are a large part of the Northland’s history. The change goes into effect this year.
