The Enduring Success of Italian Opera

The Opera has been the most successful Italian art form for more than a century with a growing audience year after year all over the world. Operas sung in Italian continue to be the most represented operas world wide, acclaimed by a growing audience on hundreds of stages across America.

The Opera America Organization reported that during the 2009-2010 season, one hundred twenty-two opera companies presented over a thousand performances to an audience of about 6 million people who attended at least one live or broadcasted opera performance in US and Canada.
