Despite mediation sessions, monthly protests and weekly visits to city council meetings, there remains no resolution to the question some Puebloans have asked for years: Will the Christopher Columbus monument within the Mesa Junction neighborhood be removed, or stay where it's been for more than 100 years?
Representatives from community organizations opposing the bust say although there may not be a resolution to that question by the end of this year, they don’t plan on halting their efforts. “If I have to protest for the next 30 years, I’ll do it,” said Tziavii Stevens, who has protested the monument since 2007 and is the leader of Take It Down Pueblo, a community coalition that opposes the Columbus bust.
