"Voices of Rhode Island's Italian-Americans" is a book that's packed with wonderful stories from Rhode Islanders whose families came from Italy in search of something better. The 182-page book includes almost 300 original photographs and excerpts, and describes the hardships, hopes, determination, cooperative spirit and industriousness of these immigrants and their families.
"The book was very successful in its first printing," says Marge Caprara, chair of the Society's Oral History Committee and a Board member of IAHS-RI. She and a team of interviewers and transcribers spent more than two years collecting the oral histories. Altogether, the book represents the efforts of almost eighty people.
