Exile and Creativity: Dante in 1320

May 24, 2020 804

Sunday May 24 2020 - 11 AM EDT. What was Dante Alighieri doing on his 55th birthday at the end of May, 1320? We don't know very much, but we do know that he was writing the Paradiso in Ravenna where he had recently arrived from Verona. From January, 1302 he had been in exile from his beloved Florence and was still under sentence of death.

This conversation will consider Dante's last year of life focusing in particular on the relationship between his exile and hid poetry. Like every May, the Dante Alighieri Society of Mass is celebrating the "sommo poeta"! We are honored to have a special guest, Prof. Lino Pertile, to give us a presentation via Zoom from Firenze (in English). Free for all!

Instructions to join the presentation: you must have the Zoom app on you computer, then you follow this link https://partners.zoom.us/j/95437694697 This is a Zoom Webinar, meaning that you will only see and listen to the speaker and not the audience. However, you can comment in the chat or ask questions in the Q&A tab that you will see in the lower bar. Presentation is about 30-40 minutes, then we open for questions.
