Boston's Italian American community came together on May 31 to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Italy as a Republic. Rainy conditions shifted the annual celebrations from Christopher Columbus Park to Filippo Ristorante.
Organized by the local COMITES chapter and the Federazione Associazioni Italiane e Italo-Americane New England, the Festa kicked off with the Centro Attività Scolastiche Italiane (Casit) awarding ten individual scholarships to as many students from the Boston area. Winning schools included the North End's Eliot School, Medford's McGlynn Elementary and Andrews Middle School, Wilmington Middle School, Winchester High School, Stoneham High School, Revere High School, and Medford High School. Casit was also the recipient of a generous donation towards its summer camp program, awarded by Rosetta Romagnoli on behalf of the Federazione Associazioni Abruzzesi-USA.
