Founder’s son: Defacement of Middletown’s Columbus statue disregards spirit of creation

Bill Corvo is angry. It's not so much that the statue of Christopher Columbus at Harbor Park overlooking the Connecticut River was vandalized some time in the last month as the fact that its significance to the Italian-American community was marred by the act.

Corvo's father Biaggio "Max" Corvo, who died in 1994, was one of the hundreds of benefactors of the statue, and among its founders, who included Corvo's mother Mary, members of the Italian American Civic Order and Italian Society of Middletown, and the Tomasso, Vinci, Salonia, Aresco and Perruccio families.
