Rhode Island judge explains Italian hand gesture ("If I catch you")

By: Joseph Battaglia

Judge Frank Caprio, explaining the ("If I catch you") Italian hand gesture. Hand gestures are a powerful tool that has been a large part of Italian culture. Around 250 specific hand gestures have been identified, with the belief that they originated from a long history of Italy being invaded by many other countries.

Given that there was no common language, people had to come up with other ways of communicating, forming the basis of modern-day hand gestures. Today, when it comes to hand gestures, we Italians simply rule. The children of Italian parents also know a wooden spoon can do a lot more than just stir a boiling pot of tomato sauce.
