The University of Rhode Island is expanding an international engineering program to Italy.
The university announced Friday that it has signed an agreement with the University of Calabria allowing URI engineering students to spend a semester at the university before pursuing a six-month internship.
URI's international engineering program is open to engineering students who also study a foreign language. The program already has German, French, Spanish and Chinese offerings. URI says the program was the first of its kind in the U.S. when it began 26 years ago.
