We are the legacy of Cristoforo Colombo

Oct 11, 2013 1452

October is Italian American Heritage month. It is also the month that we honor Christopher Columbus, the intrepid, Genoa born navigator who, despite repeated rebuffs and major disappointments, discovered America in 1492.

In 1999, the late Gov. Paul Cellucci signed special legislation declaring October Italian American Heritage month, an observance whose purpose it was and is to celebrate the contributions of Italians in both the commonwealth and the United States.
Together, with many of my Italian brethren, I am proudly celebrating my own Italian heritage this month by way of my beloved mom, Phyllis Annunziata-Marks who, along with many of her neighbors, moved our family from the North End of Boston to Medford, some 46 years ago.
