AIAE 2015 Breakfast invitation

You are cordially invited to attend the Association of Italian American Educators' Uniting Our Community Breakfast on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 8:00am to 10:30am, in the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, Room 246 at Hofstra University, Uniondale, New York.

This year, the Breakfast is sponsored in collaboration with:
The Columbia Police Association of Nassau County, Frank Ruvolo, President;
the Commission for Social Justice, (Order Sons of Italy in America) Louis Gallo, Chairman;
the Italian American Studies Association-Long Island, Professor Anne Romano, President;
and The Josephine Foundation, Andrew J. Koslosky, Chairman.

Author Jack Bilello, will be the keynote speaker: "Italian Americans in War and Peace".
Author Bilello was raised and educated in East New York, Brooklyn. He is a former Fulbright Scholar and Chairperson of History of the Lindenhurst New York Public School system. He is currently a field supervisor at Dowling College in Oakdale, Long Island. He has gained acclaim as a lecturer and guest speaker, and is recognized as an authority on World War II.

Maria Regina De Dominicis, an Italian author, is coming from the city of Pescara, Italy, to introduce her new children's book: Picci Cricetto di Casa.


Professor Ileana Baiamonte, from the Istituto Linguistico Mediterraneo, Scuola d'italiano a Pisa, has decided to come to New York and join us for the Breakfast Meeting.


Jacqueline Rito, Italian teacher at Bethpage High School and adjunct professor of Italian at SUNY - Old Westbury shares insight about an educational film in Italian, Il Sole Dentro, being shown for the first time in the United States, at the Cinema ARTS in Huntington for Film Arts in Education Program.


Prof. Louis Gesualdi will announce the formation of a new Italian American scholarly organization entitled the American Italian Socio-historical Association (AISA). The American Italian Socio-historical Association plans to set up a call for papers and to have its first conference this year on October 21st from 8:30am to 7:00pm at the D'AngeloCenter 4th floor ballroom at St. John's University.


AIAE's Programma Ponte has made it possible for over 200 college students from various locations in the United States to study in Rome during the month of July and receive six college credits. Judith Greco, winner of the Programma Ponte Scholarship 2015, will share her experiences of the past summer in Rome, Italy.

AIAE's Poets' & Writers' Piazza, Carolyn De Simone, Chair, has, for 13 years, presented outstanding, award winning poets, writers and playwrights during Hofstra's Italian Experience Festival. This program has given listeners an opportunity to explore the Italian American literary community, to eavesdrop on voices honed by their diverse yet particular experience; voices celebrating "ordinary magic." Join us by the main stage beginning at 11:15 a.m.for these three poets: Robert Savino, Matt Pasca and Steven Licardi.
12:00am – 1:00am Singers: Antonio Guarna and Francesca Cavaliere
1:00 pm Major attraction: Singer, Bobby Valli
(Performs the hit songs of Jersey legends Frank Sinatra, the Young Rascals, and The Duprees.)
