St. Joseph's Day is traditionally celebrated every year on March 19. This year, it will be celebrated in Auburn on Sunday, March 15, by the Italian community group CIAO (Cultural Italian American Organization).
St. Joseph's Day was first celebrated in Sicily in the 11th century. The people of Sicily prayed to St. Joseph when there was a severe drought. They prayed for rain so they could survive from the food that was harvested from their fields. Soon afterward, the prayers were rewarded with sufficient rain.
