Five hundred and twenty-six years ago Christopher Columbus reached the shores of the New World and we celebrate the day he arrived, Columbus Day, this year on Monday, October 8. Right here in Queens we have our very own parade: the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Queens’ (FIAO) 41st Annual Queens Columbus Day Parade on Saturday, October 6. Marchers will assemble at Kaufman Studios, 34-12 36th Street, Astoria at 11 am and start their promenade at noon.
The parade route starts on Steinway Street and wends its way through the neighborhood until it reaches Astoria Blvd. and 32nd Street, the Columbus Triangle. Everyone is invited to come and join the celebration. Of course, the New York Columbus Day Parade will be held on Fifth Avenue on Columbus Day, October 8, so you can attend both!
