Alluring aromas of Italian food will fill the air beginning Thursday, as the Gusto Italian Festival takes to the street on Endicott's North Side. Once home to many Italian-American immigrants, the festival will celebrate the ethnic roots of the Endicott neighborhood.
This year's Gusto festival, now in its 12th year, will begin with live music at 7 p.m. on the Little Italy Stage at George W. Johnson Park on Oak Hill Avenue. Swing Street Station will perform. Then on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., the Taste of Little Italy block party will stretch up Witherill Street from Oak Hill Avenue to Odell Avenue. There will be a variety of Italian food and fare, including homemade cannolis, sandwiches, pizza, sausage with peppers and onions, meatball subs, lamb and chicken spiedies, pizza fritte and traditional Italian desserts.
