Sebastian Angelico, the founder and chairman of the non-profit organization Emergency Children's Help Organization, was dubbed the 2013 Italian Heritage Month honoree in a ceremony Sunday.
"At this year's ceremony, we have an opportunity to honor an exceptional Italian-American. Years before he created E.C.H.O., Sebastian was deeply involved in philanthropic work helping the most vulnerable members of society, our children and the elderly," said Borough President James P. Molinaro in a statement announcing Angelico's selection.
"Under his leadership, E.C.H.O. has awarded nearly $600,000 in grants, not including the hundreds of thousands of dollars the charity has given to Hurricane Sandy relief. Sebastian is truly representative of the passionate, concerned, and committed individuals who make Staten Island such a great place to live."
