Josie Romano was feted on her 100th birthday at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai last Wednesday, Brookhaven Town officials said. When they asked what her secret was to such a long life, she said, “I love to eat, and once in a while a little drink, when I feel good. That’s about it and I love to dance.”
Romano, who was born in Harlem and raised in the Bronx, spent her younger years delighting audiences across the country with her marionette puppets, and at 95 years old was still teaching line dancing at the senior center. She currently works at the St. Anthony’s Thrift Shop in Rocky Point. Romano, of Rocky Point, has been blessed with three daughters, seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
