For the first time since 2011 the Howard Beach Columbus Day Parade marched down Cross Bay Boulevard on Sunday.
A steady stream of red, white and green enveloped the boulevard, along with the sounds of marching bands from local high schools and Franklin K. Lane High School's JROTC troop. Neighborhood schoolchildren from St. Helen and PS 207 joined the parade.
The annual event is organized by the Howard Beach Columbus Day Foundation, which is holding its eighth annual gala dinner Oct. 9 at Russo's on the Bay starting at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call (718) 641-3469.
