Italians and Albanians: A Historical Partnership. A Lecture and Slide Presentation by Hon. Joseph J. DioGuardi and Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi. Thursday, November 30th (6:30 PM) Italian American Museum - 155 Mulberry Street - New York, NY 10013-3734
Former U.S. Congressman Joe DioGuardi, who founded the Albanian American Civic League and Foundation in 1989, and Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi, the Civic League’s Balkan Affairs Adviser, will present the important role that Albanians have played in the history of Southern Italy for more than 500 years. Their slide presentation will focus on Greci, the oldest of the 51 Albanian-speaking villages in Italy (first settled in 1461) and the birthplace of Joe DioGuardi’s father.
The DioGuardis most recently visited Greci in September 2016, on an extended trip in conjunction with an Albanian American delegation to the Vatican for the canonization of Mother Teresa, who was born in Albania in 1910.
Suggested donation of $10 per person. Light refreshments will be served. For reservations, please call 212-965-9000 or email: [email protected] or fax 347-810-1028
