The “Italic” woman artist behind the Angel of Central Park and the Columbus statue in Brooklyn

Tuesday Octber 22 at 6PM. Columbus Citizens Foundation 8 East 69th Street, NYC. Very few people know that two important monuments in New York City were created in Rome by New Yorker Emma Stebbins, the 19th century designer of Angel of the Waters at Bethesda Foundation in Central Park and Christopher Columbus, the statue adjacent to the New York State Supreme Court in Brooklyn.

Maria Teresa Cometto, the author of Emma and the Angel of Central Park, will tell us the extraordinary story of Emma Stebbins and explain why between the 1850s and 1870s Rome was the place to be for an artist and especially for an American woman sculptor.
