Lecture: FROM THE 1966 VENICE FLOOD TO THE PALAZZO FARNESE: 50 Years of Preserving Italy's Glorious Monuments
An Audio/Visual Presentation by Bonnie Burnham, President, World Monuments Fund
World Monuments Fund (WMF) had only recently been founded when Venice, Florence and other northern and central Italian cities were devastated by the terrible floods of 1966. WMF quickly galvanized international technical support and funding to respond to this catastrophe. Since that time, WMF has championed some 40 different restoration projects in that city alone and expanded to work throughout Italy. A highlight of WMF's current work in Italy is the restoration of the famed ceiling frescos by Annibale Carracci in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, one of the highlights of Roman Baroque art.
