Thirty-five years ago, Vincent "Jimmy" Colella was named the first recipient of the Father Joseph Beatini Award, presented annually by the St. Anthony Commission to a person of Italian descent for outstanding community service. The latest honoree is Michael Scaglione — the man who now lives in Colella's former Lincoln Avenue home.
Scaglione will be recognized during the 11 a.m. Mass Aug. 31 at St. Patrick's Church. There will be a procession from the Rumseyville Sportsmen's Club to the church, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The St. Anthony's Commission will host a free continental breakfast at the Rumseyville Club at 9 a.m., with all former honorees and their families invited to participate in the procession.
