Gladstone Gallery in New York is hosting an exhibition "Early Works" by Mario Merz that will be on view through December 17, 2016. The exhibition, in collaboration with Fondazione Merz, brings together the historic early works by the seminal Italian artist Mario Merz.
A leading figure in Italy's Arte Povera movement in the 1960s and 1970s, Mario Merz's paintings, sculptures, and installations aim to oppose a monolithic culture and to celebrate perplexity, moving away from the mass-media iconography popularized by Pop Art, the mythic emotionalism of Abstract Expressionism, and the machismo detachment of Minimalism.
