In this workshop, Annie Lanzillotto will teach her signature writing techniques including Action Writing, Spiral Writing, and Memory Scapes. The day will be a journey through dynamic writing exercises to conjure memory and generate text, an exploration of narrative structure, and performance practice. Annie Rachele Lanzillotto is an actor, author, poet, and songwriter. Her publications include the memoir L is for Lion (SUNY Press, 2013) and poetry volume Schistsong, (Bordighera Press, 2013).Her plays include a'Schapett (Dancing in the Streets), Confessions of a Bronx Tomboy (Manhattan Class Company), The Flat Earth (Dixon Place), How to Wake Up a Marine in a Foxhole (The Kitchen), and Pocketing Garlic (Franklin Furnace).The New York Times named Lanzillotto one of "200 essential New Yorkers." Since 1988, she has taught writing at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, Mercy College extension programs in Sing Sing, Bedford Hills, and Bayview correctional facilities, Naropa College, New York City Ballet, and Sarah Lawrence College. Lanzillotto was writer-in-residence at Hedgebrook, New Jersey City University, Santa Fe Arts Institute, and University of Vermont, and visiting scholar at Robert Morris University. She was awarded a Bachelor of Arts with honors in medical anthropology from Brown University, and Master of Fine Arts in writing from Sarah Lawrence College.
