Just blocks from the 122nd Precinct, a New Dorp street has been renamed in honor of one of New York’s Finest. Otis Avenue, at the corner of Hylan Boulevard, has been renamed Police Officer Rocco W Laurie Way in honor of the late Rocco Laurie, a Staten Islander who was stationed in Manhattan’s 9th Precinct, where he lost his life in the line of duty in 1972.
The ceremony drew a large crowd of active and retired police officers, friends and family members of the honoree, as well as several members of the Blue Knights, an international law enforcement motorcycle club. “We once again keep the sacred commitment to never forgetting, never forgetting members of the service who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” said NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Tucker.
