Oct 17, 2018 1065

Thursday October 25 from 19:00 to 21:00 EDT. Italian Charities of America - 83-20 Queens Blvd, Elmhurst, New York 11373. Donation $5.00. As part of our Italian American Month Lecture Series we welcome our guest speaker, Mario Toglia. Mario Toglia is a retired NYC language teacher, an avid researcher, an author and executive board member of the Italian American Studies Association - Long Island Chapter and the Italian Genealogical Group.

Mario will be discussing the efforts to preserve the National Church of Our Lady of Loreto in Brownsville, NY. Even though efforts ultimately failed as the church was demolished in 2017, the legacy, history of the church and its immigrants will live on. Mario will also explain the creation and importance of National Churches in America and showcase some National Churches in New York City. Refreshments will be served.

*Italian Charities of America is proud to debut its first ever Italian American Lecture Series. Please join us in celebrating both Italian American Heritage Month this October and the kickoff of our new Lecture Series program. Italian Charities of America is proud to highlight all the Italian American guest speakers for all the hard work they do to educate on Italian American heritage and to tell their personal Italian American stories. We thank them in helping with our mission to preserve and promote Italian American culture, heritage, history and achievements in America. Our Lecture Series program will be offered every Fall and Spring. All members and non members are welcome to attend.*
