On March 25, 1911, just before closing time, a fire broke out at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in Greenwich Village, killing 146 people, mostly young Italian and Jewish immigrant women. The tragedy devastated families and traumatized communities. It also spurred labor leaders, public officials, and ordinary citizens to fight for workers' rights and safety. Over a hundred years later, the story of Triangle continues to inspire personal reflection and political activism.

This group/gathering of scholars, writers, and artists will share various ways of commemorating the fire in the United States and Italy from historical and contemporary perspectives. Participants will include Edvige Giunta, Mary Anne Trasciatti, Ester Rizzo Licata, Marcella Bencivenni, Paola Corso, Annie Lanzillotto, LuLu LoLo, and Cassandra Casella.
