“Sicily in my Blood” Exhibit Opening is this Weekend!

A retired NYC public school teacher, Joe Zarba is the founder of the photography program at Middle School 51 in Brooklyn.

Joe's photography offers a poignant counter-narrative to the stereotypes often portrayed in popular culture. Through powerful black-and-white imagery, Sicily in My Blood invites viewers to immerse themselves in the rich history, culture, and resilience of the Sicilian people. Zarba’s work spans over two decades of capturing the essence of Sicily—its hardworking people and enduring spirit.

A member of the Italian American Visual Artist Network (IAVANET), Joe Zarba’s photography has been exhibited at several esteemed venues, including the Garibaldi Meucci Museum, Casa Belvedere, and Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, as well as in Sicily itself. His work has also been featured in Shutterbug Magazine, The Times of Sicily, and America Oggi. His photos reflect a deep personal connection, built on years of exploration and a desire to present Sicily with the dignity and honor it deserves.
