The 40th annual Sons of Italy Lodge 2397 Summer Italian Festival Friday and Saturday will feature the usual food, beverages, games and music. There also will be something old that will be new this year.
Lodge members have planned a Mass in Italian at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Church on Exchange Street. The Rev. William Laird of Macedon will say the Mass. It will be followed by a procession of members carrying a statue of Mary from the church to the lodge grounds on Prospect Avenue. The procession resumes a practice of the Italian-American community that began in June 1911 but lasted only a few years until it stopped.
