The city of Milan was an important location during the life of Giuseppe Verdi, however not without its contradictions. The Conservatory of Music which bears his name denied him entry as a young student. After five early opera premieres, he shunned La Scala for 36 years. Yet, Casa Ricordi, the famous publishing house, did much to encourage and promote Verdi's works; and the composer's greatest work, the Casa di Riposo, continues to exist as a home for retired musicians. As we celebrate Expo Milano 2015, these and other places like the Grand Hotel will be explored, all accompanied by the music of the opera world's Grand Maestro!
