Columbus Day will be observed this Monday, October 14, and Christopher Columbus, at the helm of the three ships that crossed the entire Atlantic Ocean in the 15th century, will be honored. Federation of Italian American Organizations of Queens, Inc. (FIAO) is holding its 42nd Annual Queens Columbus Day Parade on Saturday, October 12 in Astoria and we highly recommend everyone come out to cheer on and enjoy this very festive Italian-American celebration.
We can’t imagine our lives without this seminal event. We as individuals would never have been born, and America might never have existed. Most of our grandparents or parents were born outside the USA, and would not have ever met had this country not come about as it did.
