My thoughts often wander back to the history of my family and to the path that led to three generations of law enforcement to serve this wonderful place in the sun. Our family legacy began with two Italian immigrants who embraced America and taught their children to be caretakers and protectors of our country.
In the early 1900s, Federico Fernez and Assunta Piscopo arrived in America. Federico served our country as a soldier in World War I, fighting in the Argonne Forest, France, with the 77th Division 306, the Machine Gun Battalion ("Lost Battalion"). They were married in 1922, and Gloria and I were born in 1924 and 1928, respectively.
