A Culture Reignited: Younger Generations Light the Way at 2nd Annual Italian American Future Leaders Conference (IAFL2)

Italian American Future Leaders, a fellowship and networking platform that's empowering and engaging younger generations (ages 21 – 35), held its' 2nd annual conference, "IAFL2," this past weekend at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, FL.

The latest conference was comprised of fellows (first-time attendees), alumni (returning attendees), mentors and presenters, who, together, conducted rounds of strategic ideation, cultural analysis and VIP networking sessions — all to drive new initiatives and spark big ideas.

For instance, planning for "IAFL3" in 2025 is already underway, and, as we speak, fellows and alumni are launching new organizations and events on the local level to attract and engage young people around the Italian American experience.

"The path to success comes down to us getting out of the way," said IAFL co-founder and COPOMIAO President Basil M. Russo. "These young folks have the acumen, drive and charisma to chart a new course for the Italian American culture that pays tribute to our past and ignites a future built on their vision, not mine — and that's the key. Our culture's future is in great hands; God bless them."

This year's presentations focused on dual citizenship, the Italian language and leadership incubation that challenged and inspired the attendees to think big.

Nine committees, comprised of alumni and mentors, co-organized IAFL2; and two co-chairs, Patrick Campesi and Gianna Pileggi, were appointed to help lead this bellwether platform.

"I am truly grateful to have been able to return to Florida this year for IAFL2. IAFL brings people together who have a love for their shared culture and who are ready to discuss important issues Italian Americans face today. Although many arrive as strangers, after a meaningful weekend of deep discussions, shared meals and singing, we leave as friends," said Pileggi.
