In honor of the state of South Carolina designating October the annual Italian-Heritage Month, the Italian-American Club of Hilton Head is hoping to bring a parade to the island. Signed by Gov. Nikki Haley on March 27, the new law says the month is set aside to "recognize Italian-Americans for their many contributions to our state and nation."
The Hilton Head club, along with Italian-American clubs in Columbia, Charleston and Myrtle Beach, are vying to be the location for a statewide Columbus Day parade in October 2016, according to a news release from the Hilton Head club. The release said the club has spoken with representatives of the town and the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, and that the event could draw as many as 20,000 visitors.
