PULASKI, Tenn. -- Chrysler, Fiat and Alfa Romeo are not the only brands Sergio Marchionne wants to advance in North America. There's also Magneti Marelli.

The Italian supplier is far from a household name in the U.S. auto industry. But the big century-old maker of lighting and powertrain parts wants to change that -- and quickly -- by slipping past U.S. market leader Koito of Japan and French-based Valeo to become North America's biggest auto lighting supplier.
