Opera and Miami Beach may be an unlikely combination, yet when legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti performed on the sand on January 22, 1995, concert attendees were as ecstatic as if they were watching the country's biggest pop star.
In fact, Pavarotti's performance, which also featured soprano Cynthia Lawrence and the Florida Philharmonic, drew an estimated crowd of 120,000—the largest gathering on the beach since The Beach Boys performed there 15 years earlier.
