The American Italian Cultural Center announces the unveiling of the bust of Italian American Nick LaRocca, the "Creator of Jazz" and composer of such jazz standards as "Tiger Rag" and "Livery Stable Blues".
The unveiling by Lt. Governor of Louisiana Jay Dardenne will take place on November 16 at 3 pm at the Old US Mint on Esplanade Avenue.
Immediatly following the unveiling will be a panel discussion concerning the history of Jazz in New Orleans, including the following luminaries:
Irvin Mayfield
George Ingmire - WWOZ
Ben Jaffe - Preservation Hall
Mechiya Lake -Musician
Alex Rawls - Guest Editor for Oxford American Magazine's Louisiana Music Issue
Immediatly following the panel there will be a viewing of the movie 'Sunshine by the Stars'. There will finally be a concert by Meschiya Lake at Hot 8 Brass.
The entire day will be streamed over the Internet. All events are free and open to the public.
